미역 다이어리 Seaweed Diary (2024)

‘미역의 위기’

조선시대 임금님 수랏상에 올려졌다는
부산시 기장군의 대표적 특산품 ‘미역’
그러나 뜨거워진 지금의 바다에서 미역이 녹아내렸다.
기후변화는 단순히 날씨의가 아니라
우리가 이땅에서 먹고 살수 있느냐의 문제가 되어있었다.

기후 변화로 인한 해양 생태계 위협에 대한 인식을 높이고, 해양 보호를 위한 실질적인 행동을 촉구하기 위한 예술 프로젝트입니다. 부산 기장의 청정 해역에서 기후 변화에 강한 ‘기장형 미역’을 배양하고, 이를 소재로 시각 예술, 미디어 아트, 문학 등 다양한 예술 작품을 제작합니다. 전시와 연계 프로그램을 통해 대중 참여를 유도하고, 국제적인 협력을 통해 예술을 기후 행동의 도구로 활용하고자 합니다.

The project Seaweed Diary aims to raise awareness about the threats to marine ecosystems caused by climate change and inspire action for conservation. By cultivating improved seaweed strains, specifically the "Gijang-type seaweed," in the clean waters of Gijang, Busan, my collective Women’s Cactus for the Arts and Eco Action Forest will collaborate to create various artistic works, including visual art, interactive media art, and literary works. Through exhibitions and accompanying programs, we will engage the public and collaborate internationally to use art as a direct tool for climate action. We brought this crisis to the forefront at the Seoul Design Festival and the UN Climate Summit in Baku, Azerbaijan (COP29).
